Then they welcome this week’s guest, Leonard Lee Buschel, founder of Writers In Treatment (W.I.T.), a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization grounded in the arts and recovery. W.I.T.’s primary purpose is to save lives through promoting and providing ‘treatment’ as the best first step solution for addiction, alcoholism and other self-destructive behaviors. W.I.T. also offers educational, prevention and awareness programs through their nationally acclaimed REEL RECOVERY FILM FESTIVAL and SYMPOSIUM presented in Los Angeles, New York, Ft. Lauderdale, Las Vegas, San Francisco,, Houston and Vancouver BC.

He also is the editor and publisher of the weekly Addiction/Recovery eBulletin that reaches an audience of over 17,000 individuals. Mr. Buschel is a California Certified Substance Abuse Counselor with years of experience working directly with people struggling with addiction. He believes strongly in exercising the mind and continues to develop himself as counselor, psychological thinker, non-profit executive and writer. He does this through his own personal work in 12-step programs and has attended seminars by the most influential thinkers of our time.

Chasing The High

The summer before I started high school, I watched the movie Top Gun at least 200 times. It was one of two VHS tapes that didn’t bore me at my dad’s house, where I was spending the summer. I lived vicariously through Maverick and Goose. I wanted to fly those planes because I knew even back then that there had to be a high in that. I will fill you in on a small, but possibly important detail. At that point in my life, I had never even been on a commercial plane. But I was addicted to the idea of a thrill and I wanted it.

How to Escape the Grips of Resentments and Harmful Expectations

Resentment – a feeling of anger or displeasure about someone or something unfair (1).

As addicts and alcoholics, nothing can lead us down the road to drinking, using and other forms of self-medication, like a good old-fashioned resentment! You know, those pesky feelings that creep up, day in and day out, as we replay situations over and over again in our heads, until they no longer portray what actually happened. In result, we wind up either feel so pathetically sorry for ourselves or reduce ourselves to such a degree of anger, that we could spit (as my mom would say).
